Surrounded by some of Nagasaki’s best-loved attractions, the ANA Crowne Plaza is a great choice for travellers who want to explore this wonderful city on foot.  The ubiquitous and cute electric trams stop just around the corner too, allowing you to head across the city and to outlying points of interest, such as the solemn but unmissable Peace Park and Atomic Bomb Museum.

The Oura Church – a significant Catholic monument – and Glover Garden Park – a microcosm of Western architecture, displayed as an open-air museum – are both within a few minutes’ walk of the hotel.  Plenty of incredible restaurants, cafes serving up regional treats, and stores selling touristy mementos and tchotchkes fill the nearby streets.  Guest rooms are modern, functional and surprisingly commodious for an affordable hotel.  The staff are accommodating and helpful, but the language barrier in this part of the country will be more noticeable than in other major cities.  The location is the real selling point of this property, but with a varied breakfast included, and a laidback lobby bar serving up drinks into the evening, it’s certainly more pleasant than an average, bland hotel.

Nagasaki is a busy port city, and behemoth-like cruise ships are occasionally docked in the harbour near the hotel.  Chances are you won’t even notice the day-trippers on their organised walks around town, but we would recommend visiting the local sights early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the temporary crowds.
